The company Neonode Inc. has released an interesting product that would give your laptop monitor touchscreen capabilities. The AirBar uses a USB connection and magnets to interface with your laptop screen. It sits below your laptop screen and projects a light field on the surface of your screen that allows you “touch” and interact with your desktop OS. Using their patented technology they claim that a user can interact with almost any input device such as a stylus, a finger, or even a paintbrush. The AirBar is available for the following screens sizes: 13.3″, 14″, and 15.6″. It is able to work without any setup or configuring required and is compatible with most PCs running Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. A version was recently release to work with the MacBook Air, but not the MacBook Pro series as it requires 17mm of free space below the display.
Recently at CES 2017, AirBar was named a CES 2017 Innovation Awards Honoree in the computer accessories category. This is an interesting I/O device for those of who are looking to turn a legacy laptop into pseudo 2 in 1 device. The AirBar is priced below $100 mark and would be a good low cost option to test if having laptop with touchscreen would be an added benefit to your workflow.
